In January 2020, a man driving in New Mexico brought his truck to a complete stop at a safe distance from a busy intersection, as required by law. While the man waited for traffic to clear, a distracted driver slammed into the back of his truck, causing the truck to move forward and strike the vehicle sitting in front of him.
After his idling car experienced hits in the rear and the front, the man required medical attention to treat his back and neck area. A local emergency room treated him for a low back spasm and aching pain to the left of his neck. As part of the hospital instructions, he was sent to a chiropractor for further treatment.
The injuries made the man unable to work his physically demanding job in the oil fields, and he sadly lost his job. He was forced to move to his hometown hundreds of miles away, where he continued his medical treatments. Unfortunately, his body was not responsive. He was then referred to an orthopedic specialist, who diagnosed him with thoracic radiculopathy and thoracic disc displacement. The specialist had the man undergo a T8-9 interlaminar epidural steroid injection with fluoroscopy, which he received two times.
The man continued to live with pain despite multiple injections and physical therapy sessions, and he suffered from a diminished quality of life, especially after losing his job.
