The Heartbreaking Details

The incident quickly escalated after a Kroger employee noticed the children alone in the car. According to witness reports, the manager rushed into the store carrying two children, one in her arms and another in a carrier, while yelling for help.

“I just found these two kids in the car with no AC on,” the manager reportedly told police. Wilson allegedly tried to claim that the car’s air conditioning had been running, but the manager and law enforcement officers confirmed it was not.

Houston's temperatures were near 100 degrees that day. In those conditions, the inside of a parked car can reach deadly temperatures within minutes. Safety experts say a child’s body heats up three to five times faster than an adult’s. Heatstroke can begin once body temperature reaches 104°F and become fatal at 107°F. Even with the windows cracked, leaving a child unattended in a vehicle, especially in Texas heat, is incredibly dangerous and, as this case shows, potentially criminal.

The full timeline of how long the children were left inside the vehicle is still unknown, and it's unclear whether the car was locked. Police and emergency responders rushed to the scene, but it has not been reported whether any children required hospitalization.

How The Button Law Firm Helps After Daycare Negligence

When parents drop their children off at daycare, whether it’s a large center or a small home-based provider, they put immense trust in that caregiver. And when that trust is broken, the results can be traumatic and life-altering.

At The Button Law Firm, we’ve worked with families across Texas whose children were hurt or put in danger because of careless or reckless daycare practices. In some cases, children were left unsupervised or transported unsafely. In others, providers failed to follow basic health and safety regulations, like in this case, where children were allegedly left in a hot car during extreme heat.

Our legal team thoroughly investigates these incidents to uncover how and why they happened. We work to hold the daycare accountable and make sure families get the answers and support they deserve. More importantly, we fight for changes that prevent the same thing from happening to another child.
