Tragic Incident Sparks Nationwide Recall

OREGON - According to an NBC News report, nearly 192,000 KidKraft “Farm to Table” Model Play Kitchens have been recalled after a tragic incident in Oregon claimed the life of a toddler. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall, warning families about the danger posed by metal hooks on the play set that are used to hold toy kitchen accessories.

The heartbreaking case occurred when a young child was crawling through an opening in the back of the play kitchen. One of the hooks caught onto the child’s shirt, causing strangulation and asphyxia. Sadly, the child was unable to free himself in time.

Details of the Recall

The recalled play kitchens were sold online through KidKraft.com, Amazon, and Walmart from 2018 through 2025. While KidKraft originally manufactured the product, Backyard Kids, LLC of Plano, Texas, distributed some units, about 400 of which were sold directly by Backyard Kids to consumers in the U.S. and Canada.

The CPSC warns that the design poses a serious risk of strangulation or asphyxiation if a child climbs on the counter or crawls through the rear opening while wearing clothing that can catch on the hooks. Families are urged to immediately stop using the product, remove the original hooks, and contact Backyard Kids, LLC for a free set of replacement hooks.
