What News4SA Reported About the San Antonio Explosions

News4SA reported that emergency crews responded to a house explosion along Preston Hollow Drive shortly after 6 p.m. A second explosion occurred around 8 p.m. while firefighters and media were still on scene.

Five people were hospitalized, including a child who remains in critical condition. Officials confirmed that at least three of the injuries are life-threatening.

Authorities have indicated that a natural gas buildup was the likely cause. CPS Energy identified the source of the leak, while investigators—including the National Transportation Safety Board—continue working to determine how the gas accumulated.

Fire officials warned that while natural gas is typically detectable by smell, there are rare but dangerous situations where that warning sign can disappear—allowing gas to build without detection.

When a Known Risk Turns Into a Life-Threatening Event

Natural gas leaks are well-known hazards that require consistent monitoring and rapid response.

When gas accumulates to the point of causing explosions in a residential area, it raises serious questions:

  • How long was the leak present?
  • Were warning signs missed?
  • Were proper safeguards and inspections in place?
  • Could earlier action have prevented the buildup?

These questions go directly to accountability. Families should not be left wondering whether a preventable danger was allowed to escalate.

The Impact on Children and Families

Incidents like this are often described in terms of explosions and emergency response. But for families, especially when a child is involved, the impact is far more personal.

A child may face ongoing medical care, emotional trauma, and disruption to their daily life. For parents, the experience is overwhelming. It is not just about what happened; it is about what comes next.

How The Button Law Firm Supports Families After Serious Injury

After an incident like this, families are often left trying to piece together what happened while caring for an injured child. That is not something you should have to navigate alone.

At The Button Law Firm, we work to uncover the full story, securing reports, reviewing records, and identifying what led up to the incident.

We also work closely with our in-house Child Advocate to understand what the child experienced and how that trauma may affect them moving forward. That perspective helps shape not only the case but also the child’s path to recovery.

From there, we help families access support, including therapy and other resources that assist in both physical and emotional healing.

Most importantly, we are there to guide families through one of the most difficult times in their lives—helping them move forward with clarity and support.

Accountability Matters When Safety Systems Fail

Gas leaks and explosions often involve multiple layers of responsibility—utilities, infrastructure, and safety protocols.

When something breaks down within that system, the consequences can be severe.

Accountability is about understanding what failed, why it failed, and what must change to prevent it from happening again. Safety cannot be optional when lives are at risk.

The Button Law Firm’s Commitment to Families

No family expects to face something like this in their own home or neighborhood.

Although BLF is not handling this specific matter, our firm represents children and families in serious injury cases where preventable risks lead to life-changing harm. We are committed to helping families understand their options and pursue accountability when safety failures occur.
