Visit in Person and Ask the Hard Questions
A clean website or good marketing does not equal a safe daycare. Visiting in person is essential. When you go, observe the environment closely. Are hazardous items like cleaning supplies and medication stored securely out of children’s reach? Are safety gates and childproofing in place? Do the staff members seem attentive and present?
Come prepared with questions. Ask about the child-to-caregiver ratio and how many children each staff member is responsible for. Ask how injuries are handled and whether the daycare contacts parents right away. You can also ask whether all staff and volunteers have passed background checks and whether there are security systems, like cameras or locked entrances.
It is okay to ask direct questions. A safe and responsible daycare will welcome them. If you feel rushed during a tour or if staff are unwilling to give clear answers, that could be a sign to keep looking.
Read Reviews and Talk to Other Parents
Online reviews can reveal details that you may not get during a tour. Look at Google reviews, local parenting Facebook groups, and the state’s complaint history for the daycare you are considering. One bad review may not mean much, but repeated concerns about supervision, injuries, or poor communication can point to deeper issues.
It is also helpful to talk directly to other parents whose children are currently enrolled or who previously attended the daycare. Ask about their experiences, especially how the daycare communicates with parents and how they have handled any incidents in the past.
What If Your Child Is Hurt at Daycare?
Injuries can still happen even if you take every precaution and choose carefully. If your child is hurt while in the care of a Galveston daycare, and you suspect that the daycare was negligent, you have the right to ask questions and seek support.
Negligence can look like inadequate supervision, unsafe facilities, or staff who are not adequately trained. If your child’s injury could have been prevented, the daycare should be held accountable, not just for your family’s sake, but to help prevent the same thing from happening to another child.
At The Button Law Firm, we work with families across Texas, including Galveston, facing these difficult situations. We help investigate what went wrong and guide families through the legal process, so they are not left navigating everything on their own.
