Parents of toddlers know just how important safety is in their child’s room. That's why we want to discuss the rules for toddler rooms at Texas daycares. Let’s start with what’s needed in the room.

What's Needed in Toddler Daycare Rooms?

According to the minimum standards, toddler areas must include:

  • Space in a room that allows individual and group time
  • A play area that allows the caregiver to supervise all children

Furnishing Requirements in Toddler Daycare Rooms

When it comes to furnishing and supplying a toddler room, daycares must include:

  • Age-appropriate seating, tables, and nap or rest equipment
  • Enough popular items so that toddlers aren’t forced to compete for them
  • Containers or low shelving so that toddlers are able to obtain items without adult intervention
  • And bottles and training cups, which must be labeled with initials, cleaned and sanitized between use, and used for only drinking and feeding time.

Daycares must also ensure that the environments toddlers are in are free of objects that may cause choking.

And to help with overall safety in the toddler room, daycare directors must keep up with agencies like the Consumer Product Safety Commission and the American Academy of Pediatrics to see if any previously acceptable furnishings or toys are now deemed unsafe.

This is all in the interest of keeping toddlers safe and healthy. If caregivers fail to follow the rules and regulations set out by the state, toddlers are at risk of being seriously injured due to improper furnishings and equipment in their space. The sad part is that these types of injuries are 100% preventable.
