Two Williamson County families are speaking out after learning their babies were exposed to THC vape smoke inside the infant classroom at The Learning Junction Early Education Center in Hutto. Univision 62 recently aired a video report featuring details of the lawsuit filed by The Button Law Firm, bringing attention to what these families experienced and what investigators uncovered.
The families enrolled their daughters at this licensed daycare, expecting safe supervision. Instead, they later learned that the caregiver responsible for the infants had been using a THC vape pen inside the classroom while caring for them.
How the Families Learned the Truth
According to the Univision 62 video, one mother became alarmed when her baby seemed unusually lethargic and unstable. She took her daughter to the emergency room, where testing revealed extremely high levels of THC in the child’s system. Both parents tested negative for drugs, which left the daycare as the source of exposure.
Before this moment, both babies had been experiencing recurring symptoms like red eyes, congestion, and ongoing respiratory problems. The families initially believed this was a typical illness, but after the positive test results, the symptoms took on new meaning.
What Investigators Found Inside the Hutto Classroom
The Univision story explains that investigators reviewed classroom video footage showing the caregiver taking a vape pen from her purse or bra and using it inside the infant room. She then sprayed Lysol, which investigators believe was an attempt to hide the odor. The caregiver later admitted she brought the THC vape pen to work two to three days a week and used it several times a day while caring for the infants.
Despite these concerns, the daycare did not immediately remove her from the classroom. Instead, she continued working with children and was later moved to a class with three-year-olds. She resigned during the investigation but was never terminated.
The Texas Daycare’s Troubling Safety Record
Univision 62 also noted that this incident is part of a larger pattern of safety concerns at The Learning Junction. State regulators had already cited the daycare for multiple violations and placed the center on probation for failing to meet basic childcare standards. Some of these violations were marked as posing a greater risk to children’s health and safety.
When a daycare is already struggling to follow the rules designed to protect children, the risk to families grows. In this case, the consequences for these infants were far more serious than any parent could ever expect.
The Button Law Firm’s Work to Protect These Families
As highlighted in the Univision 62 coverage, the families sought help from The Button Law Firm because they wanted answers and accountability. They trusted a licensed daycare with their babies, and that trust was broken in a devastating way. Our role is to help uncover exactly how this happened, why the daycare allowed the caregiver to continue working, and what steps were missed that could have prevented this. These families deserve transparency from the daycare that failed them, and our team is committed to helping them get the accountability they deserve while working to improve childcare safety across Texas.
