Texas wrongful death attorneys comment on wrong way car crashWhat Happened in the Parker County, Texas Car Wreck?

PARKER COUNTY, Texas – Recently, a wrong-way crash resulted in a heartbreaking loss of four lives, including two 9-year-old girls, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS). The accident occurred on Farm-to-Market Road 51 when a Subaru Legacy, driven by 29-year-old Kathryn Lain, veered into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a Ford F-150 truck. The crash also claimed the lives of 66-year-old Gregory Daniel Schilb and two young girls who were passengers in the truck.

The driver of the pickup, 43-year-old Amber Rae Reed, was seriously injured but survived. Reed, a teacher at Goshen Creek Elementary School, was airlifted to a local hospital and is in stable condition, facing a long road to recovery.

Springtown ISD Superintendent Shane Strickland expressed deep sorrow over the loss of two fourth graders and the severe injury to their beloved teacher. "Our hearts ache for the families of those we lost, for our entire district, and for our community as a whole. We are heartbroken to hear about any life that was lost during this tragedy. Life is so precious and way too short. During this difficult time, we ask that you hold them in your thoughts and prayers," Strickland wrote.

Grief counselors have been available to support the school community during this tragic time. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Texas DPS, who have not yet determined why Lain crossed the northbound lane.

How Our Child Wrongful Death Attorneys Will Fight in Memory of Your Child

Wrongful death damages aren’t about profiting from the loss of a loved one—far from it. Money awarded in a wrongful death claim is intended to cover any medical costs the victim may have incurred before death and to compensate the victim’s family for the tremendous loss they’ve suffered.

Damages for the following may also be awarded:

  • Funeral and burial expenses
  • Medical expenses
  • Pain and suffering
  • Loss of love, comfort, and companionship
  • Punitive damages if a person’s gross negligence caused your child’s death

If you are a family member of the deceased or other eligible parties, you will need the help and guidance of an experienced wrongful death attorney to seek these damages. You may also have cause to file a survival action to collect additional damages on behalf of the deceased loved one.
