Watch How Caregivers Supervise the Room
One of the biggest things to pay attention to is whether caregivers can actually see the children they are responsible for.
Are there shelves, corners, or furniture blocking their view? What happens when one child needs a diaper change or help in the bathroom? Who watches everyone else?
Ask how supervision works during busy parts of the day, including meals, outdoor play, transitions, drop-off, and pickup.
Check Doors and Areas Children Should Not Be Able to Reach
Look at how the daycare keeps children from getting into unsafe areas.
Exterior doors should be secure. Kitchens, storage rooms, closets, and other areas with potential hazards should be kept away from children. Outdoor play areas should have secure gates and fencing.
You can also ask how the daycare handles visitors and who is allowed to pick up your child.
Ask What Happens When a Child Gets Hurt
You should be able to get a clear answer when you ask what happens after an injury.
How quickly are parents called? Is an incident report completed? What happens during a medical emergency? How are allergies, medications, and care plans handled?
If the answers are vague, rushed, or different depending on who you ask, that may be worth paying attention to.
Check the Daycare’s Licensing History
What you see during a tour is only one part of the picture.
Parents can also review a Texas daycare’s licensing and inspection history through Texas Health and Human Services. Look for past problems involving supervision, safety hazards, training, discipline, or reporting.
A single issue does not always tell the whole story, but repeated problems can raise important questions.

We Are Here if Your Child Was Hurt at Daycare
Even careful parents cannot see everything that happens after they leave a daycare. If your child is later seriously injured, that does not mean you missed something or failed to ask the right question. It is the daycare’s job to provide a safe environment and properly supervise the children in its care.
If your child was seriously injured because a daycare failed to protect them, we strongly encourage you to reach out to our team.
At The Button Law Firm, we represent kids in daycare and child injury cases to help them get life-changing results and justice against bad daycares, schools, and companies that abuse and neglect the safety of children.

When you tour a daycare, you are trying to picture your child there. Where will they play? Who will be watching them? What happens if they get hurt? And most importantly, does this feel like .png)
