CBS News Texas Spotlighted Our Work Holding a Daycare Accountable
The Button Law Firm recently spoke with CBS News Texas regarding a lawsuit our firm filed on behalf of five North Texas families whose children were harmed while attending Camden Hill Montessori in Carrollton.
CBS News Texas featured this case because it reflects a painful truth: when childcare providers fail to protect children, families are left carrying the emotional and physical consequences for years. Our role is to make sure those families are not left carrying it alone.
Why This Lawsuit Matters
Daycare centers have one job that comes before all others: keep children safe.
Parents should never have to question whether their toddler is being cared for properly. They should never have to fear what is happening behind classroom doors. And they should never have to discover, after the fact, that harm was preventable.
This lawsuit is about accountability for repeated mistreatment that occurred in a place families trusted with their children’s well-being. As CBS News Texas reported, parents who viewed surveillance footage described it as devastating and unforgettable. These were children too young to speak up for themselves, and that is exactly why the law must speak for them.
What Families Discovered Behind Closed Doors
This case did not begin with a headline. It began with a phone call no parent should ever receive.
A daycare employee called to tell parents that their one-year-old child had been hurt while in their care. In an instant, a normal day became every parent’s nightmare. The family rushed to pick up their son, frightened and desperate for answers.
Doctors later diagnosed deep bone bruising, an injury that immediately raised serious concerns and left the family asking how something so severe could happen inside a daycare classroom.
When the parents continued pressing for the truth and were finally able to review surveillance footage, what they saw was devastating. The video showed a caregiver grabbing a child by the arm, carrying them across the room, and dropping them.
That discovery opened the door to something even larger.
Over the course of five days, the footage referenced in the lawsuit revealed more than 140 separate incidents involving toddlers being aggressively handled, screamed at, and mistreated. Families later learned through investigators that their own children had also been affected.
A Breakdown That Went Beyond One Incident
That number is not just alarming. It reflects a systemic failure.
A childcare facility cannot allow repeated harm to continue without serious breakdowns in supervision, training, and oversight. The lawsuit details conduct that went unaddressed and, in some instances, was witnessed by other staff members who failed to intervene.
This was not a single lapse in judgment. It was a pattern that should have been stopped.
Accountability Extends Beyond One Person
As Russell Button told CBS News Texas, responsibility does not end with one individual.
“There will always be bad caregivers,” he explained. “It’s the daycare’s responsibility to create a system to prevent them from ever being around kids.”
That is the heart of this case.
Daycares must be held accountable not only for what happens inside their classrooms, but for what they fail to prevent through proper hiring, training, monitoring, and intervention.
Standing With Families Seeking Justice
Camden Hill Montessori has since closed, but families have made clear that closure is not closure.
Parents are left with lasting pain, anger, and grief over what their children experienced during moments when they should have been safe.
At The Button Law Firm, we are proud to stand beside these families and pursue justice on their behalf. Lawsuits like this are about answers. They are about accountability. And they are about protecting other children from ever enduring the same harm.
CBS News Texas covered this case because these families’ voices deserve to be heard, and because childcare safety must never be optional.
