Child Hugging ParentThe Dallas Morning News Highlights Our Lawsuit on Behalf of North Texas Families

The Button Law Firm recently spoke with The Dallas Morning News about a lawsuit our firm filed on behalf of five North Texas families whose toddlers were inappropriately handled while attending Camden Hill Montessori in Carrollton.

In its coverage, The Dallas Morning News reported that Russell Button described this case as one of the most significant multi-child, multi-incident daycare cases in recent history. The article underscores what these families have endured and why accountability in childcare settings is so critical.

A Call No Parent Should Ever Receive

As detailed in The Dallas Morning News article, this case began when the daycare contacted Jamus Hernandez’s family to say their one-year-old son had been hurt. Like any parents, they rushed to pick him up and seek medical care.

Doctors later diagnosed the child with a deep bone contusion, an injury that raised immediate alarm. The Dallas Morning News reported that the daycare attempted to reassure the family after the injury by suggesting the child had simply tripped on a toy while playing.

But the questions only grew louder.

What the Lawsuit Says Was Captured on Video

As described in The Dallas Morning News coverage, the Hernandez family eventually reviewed surveillance footage that showed something far different from what they had been told.

The article explains that the caregiver is seen lifting the child by one arm, carrying him across the room suspended by that arm, and dropping him to the floor, causing him to cry out in pain. The lawsuit states that similar treatment was repeated with other toddlers in the classroom.

No child should ever experience that in a place parents trust to provide safety and care.

More Than 140 Incidents in Five Days

The Dallas Morning News further reported that five days of footage revealed more than 140 separate instances of mistreatment.

The lawsuit describes conduct including covering children’s mouths while they cried, pulling their hair, pinching, yelling, and other harmful treatment. The sheer number of incidents reflects not a single lapse, but a broader systemic failure to protect children over time.

Past Violations and Failure to Intervene

In the article, The News also highlighted that Texas Health and Human Services cited the daycare for several violations, including using cruel language, failing to report incidents, and failing to intervene to ensure a child’s safety.

These violations are important because daycare centers have an obligation not only to respond after harm occurs, but to prevent harm through proper supervision, training, and intervention.

Camden Hill Montessori closed in October 2025, but as families have expressed, closure does not erase what happened.

Accountability Beyond One Individual

As Russell Button told The Dallas Morning News, the responsibility extends beyond one person. Daycare facilities must create systems that ensure dangerous conduct is stopped immediately, not allowed to continue.

“How many kids?” Button said in the article. “As long as those caregivers were at that day care, these children were open to being treated like this.”

Families Continue to Live with the Impact

The Dallas Morning News piece also reflects the lasting emotional toll on parents. Families described the pain of watching footage they cannot unsee and the deep loss of trust that follows.

For many, the trauma does not end when a facility closes. Parents are still left helping their children heal, while carrying the weight of knowing what occurred when their toddlers could not speak for themselves.
