Child and ParentA Case That Began with a Parent’s Fear and a Child’s Pain

When parents drop their children off at daycare, they do so with trust. Trust that their child will be safe. Trust that caregivers will protect, not harm. For several North Texas families, that trust was shattered.

NBC DFW recently featured a case handled by The Button Law Firm involving children who were injured and mistreated at a daycare formerly known as Camden Hill Montessori. What began as one family searching for answers after their child was hurt uncovered a much deeper and more disturbing reality, one that no family should ever have to face.

The Injury That Raised Unthinkable Questions

The daycare originally called the Hernandez family to tell them that their one-year-old son had been injured while playing with another child. They downplayed the severity of the injury and continued to reiterate that the whole incident was the result of “kids being kids.” Later that night, the young boy’s pain had only gotten worse, leading Jamus Hernandez and his wife to seek medical care for their son.

Doctors later diagnosed their child with deep bone bruising, an injury that did not align with a simple fall or routine toddler mishap. As medical professionals asked questions stating the amount of force necessary to cause this injury, the parents began to realize something was not right.

That realization led them to push the daycare staff to allow the parents to view the surveillance footage from inside the daycare.

Video Footage No Parent Should Ever Have to Watch

What the Hernandez family saw on the footage was devastating. The video showed their child being yanked up by the arm, carried across the room, and dropped. This was not roughhousing. This was not a misunderstanding. It was a child being handled with force by someone entrusted with his care.

After the family reported what they discovered to the police and state investigators, other parents were notified that their children were victims of the same mistreatment. As NBC DFW reported, footage reviewed during the investigation revealed more than 140 separate instances of children being grabbed, screamed at, pulled, and mishandled over a period of just five days.

Another parent, Hannah Showalter, described watching a video of her own child enduring constant yelling and physical treatment that left her family distraught. These children were too young to explain what was happening to them, but the footage spoke clearly.

A Pattern of Failure, Not a Single Incident

This case exposed far more than the actions of one caregiver. It revealed a system that failed children repeatedly.

Past violations, inadequate supervision, and failures in hiring and training allowed this conduct to continue. A former employee has since been charged with injury to a child, and the daycare facility is now closed, sitting empty.

But for families, closure does not erase what their children experienced or the lasting emotional impact.

How The Button Law Firm Is Holding the Daycare Accountable

At The Button Law Firm, we represent families after daycare and child injuries. This kind of harm is not from an isolated incident; it continues when warning signs are ignored and when accountability is absent.

This case is about responsibility. It is about exposing systemic failures. And it is about making sure children who could not speak for themselves are finally heard.

NBC DFW’s coverage has helped bring public attention to these families’ experiences, but the legal fight is about creating real accountability and meaningful change.
