What KWTX Reported About the Playground Incident
According to the article by KWTX, the mother of a 1-year-old boy received a call from Central Texas Children’s Center informing her that her son had been bitten by another child during outdoor playtime.
The bites were serious enough to break the skin, and the toddler was later taken to a doctor, where he was prescribed antibiotics.
After arriving at the daycare, the child’s mother reviewed surveillance footage from a camera positioned outside on the playground. She said the video appeared to show several daycare staff members standing near a doorway while the children were playing farther away on the playground equipment.
According to the mother, no staff members were close enough to intervene when the incident occurred.
For many parents, seeing footage like this can be deeply unsettling. Families rely on daycare staff to actively supervise young children and step in quickly when conflicts or unsafe situations arise.
Why Supervision Is Critical for Toddlers
Young children are still learning to interact with others and regulate their emotions. Behaviors like biting can occur among toddlers, particularly in busy group settings.
That is why daycare providers are expected to closely monitor children at all times.
Active supervision means caregivers are positioned where they can see and respond to children immediately. When staff are distracted, standing too far away, or not paying attention, situations that could have been stopped in seconds can escalate.
For parents who leave their children in daycare while they work, the expectation is simple: someone should always be watching.
Parents Should Report Any Daycare Safety Concerns
KWTX reported that Texas Health and Human Services has opened an investigation into the incident.
Whenever a child is injured at daycare, it is important for parents to report the incident so it can be properly documented and investigated. State agencies rely on these reports to determine whether daycare facilities are following required safety standards.
Reporting concerns not only helps families get answers about what happened to their child, but also helps protect other children if safety issues are identified.
Parents should feel empowered to ask questions, request incident reports, and report any situation where they believe a daycare failed to properly supervise or protect their child.
How The Button Law Firm Supports Families After Daycare Injuries
At The Button Law Firm, we have seen how upsetting it can be for parents to learn their child was injured while in the care of a daycare provider.
Families often come to us with the same questions:
How did this happen?
Was someone supposed to be watching?
Could it have been prevented?
Our team works with families to investigate daycare safety practices, examine supervision failures, and determine whether required minimum standards were followed.
These cases are not just about one incident. They are about protecting children and making sure daycare providers take their responsibility seriously.
The Button Law Firm Is Here to Support Families
Although BLF is not handling this specific case, we stand with families whose children have been harmed by daycare negligence or a lack of supervision.
