The easy answer is NO. You do not have to sign the forms they send you. The insurance company wants to settle your claim as fast and cheap as possible. They will most likely send you a bunch of forms and tell you every one must sign these in order to receive a settlement. Well, that is just not true. They just want to get you to do whatever they say, jump when they say jump, and get a head start on telling you why your case isn't worth much. Adjusters will try to get you to sign a quick release and promise you a few hundred bucks to get your case settled. This release means you have no more claim. So, if you end up needing a back surgery, but didn't know it at the time you signed that release the day after a wreck for $400, you are just out of luck.
