Child CryingThe Houston Chronicle recently covered a lawsuit filed by The Button Law Firm on behalf of five North Texas families whose toddlers were harmed while attending Camden Hill Montessori in Carrollton.

In its reporting, the Houston Chronicle highlighted disturbing conduct described in the lawsuit, including children being yanked by the arms, dropped, pinched, screamed at, and aggressively handled in ways no child should ever experience.

This case is about accountability and protecting children who are too young to speak for themselves.

What the Houston Chronicle Reported From the Lawsuit

As the Houston Chronicle article explains, concerns first surfaced in June 2025 when one parent noticed his 16-month-old son had a serious leg injury. The family was initially told it was the result of routine toddler play.

But the lawsuit describes that medical care revealed a much more severe injury, raising immediate alarm for the parents.

According to the complaint, once surveillance footage was obtained, the family discovered their child’s injury occurred when a caregiver grabbed him by the arm, carried him across the room, and dropped him, leaving the little boy with a severe leg injury.

No parent should ever have to experience their child being harmed by the very people entrusted with their care.

A Pattern of Mistreatment That Was Preventable

The Houston Chronicle further reported that what was uncovered went far beyond one child.

The lawsuit describes more than 140 instances over a five-day period in which toddlers were aggressively handled, including repeated yanking, dropping, and physical mistreatment.

The complaint also states that in at least 14 incidents, another caregiver was present but failed to intervene or report what was happening. The lawsuit even recounts an incident in which a caregiver asked for a shoe to be handed to her so she could throw it at a child.

These are not unavoidable accidents. These are failures of supervision, intervention, and basic childcare responsibility.

Systemic Failure at Camden Hill Montessori

As stated directly in the lawsuit and highlighted by the Houston Chronicle, “The simple truth is: Camden Hill failed these children.”

The case describes a daycare environment where meaningful monitoring did not occur, intervention did not take place, and protection was not provided.

The complaint details additional conduct, including covering children’s mouths while they cried, falsifying incident reports, pulling hair, throwing objects, and other cruel treatment that no child should ever endure.

Daycare centers are entrusted with children’s safety. When that trust is violated, accountability is essential.

Preventable Harm and the Duty to Protect Children

The Houston Chronicle also reported Russell Button’s emphasis that these incidents could have been stopped long before multiple children were harmed if proper supervision and safeguards had been in place.

Camden Hill Montessori shut down in October 2025, but families have made clear that closure does not undo the trauma or erase the need for answers.
