The Dallas Morning News featuring a Button Law Firm Client's storyDALLAS, TX - The Dallas Morning News recently featured our client's story following a serious incident involving their child at Safari Kid daycare in Allen, Texas. This report by The Dallas Morning News emphasizes the importance of holding childcare facilities accountable for the safety and well-being of the children under their care.

What Happened at This Allen, Texas Daycare?

In March 2023, a 2-year-old child wandered unnoticed from Safari Kid daycare in Allen toward the busy street of McDermott Drive, posing a serious safety risk. Fortunately, the quick actions of an employee from a nearby Kwik Kar prevented a potential tragedy by promptly taking the toddler to a nearby childcare center, which didn’t recognize him. That’s when the employee called 911.

According to the Dallas Morning News article, police began calling nearby childcare centers in the surrounding area and asked Safari Kid if they were missing any children, to which the director said they were not. It wasn’t until the officer requested that they conduct a headcount that the director realized the toddler was missing. The daycare claimed they didn’t know how the child got outside or how long he’d been missing.

One particularly disturbing revelation during the investigation related to the deficient security measures at the daycare's outdoor playground. Investigators discovered that the gate leading to the playground was inadequately secured, relying on makeshift measures that were easily bypassed by a curious and adventurous child. This glaring oversight underscored the urgent necessity for enhanced safety standards within childcare facilities to avert potential disasters.

Additional investigations revealed lapses in supervision and safety protocols at Safari Kid, including the previously mentioned inadequate security measures at the outdoor playground. The article shares the other infractions from state investigations included the daycare giving prescription medication to the wrong child, an employee misstating the number of children in her care, failing to complete fire inspections, leaving a child alone in a room, and not completing a background check for an employee who was going to care for children. The Button Law Firm is now working to ensure this daycare is held accountable for their actions, especially the danger they put children in.
